A beautiful couple of days backpacking. The inward hike ended at the foot of Suilven, where camp was set up next to the beautiful Fionn Loch. The weather was largely clear, and some beautiful light was cast across the clouds that passed over now and then while the sun set. The next day, ascending Suilven in changeable weather was a fantastic day. Although the cloud became more frequent, the only rain shower of the day lasted mere minutes. Upon arriving at the summit, panoramic views open up – showcasing the other Assynt mountains with further views to Stornoway in the distance off the west coast.
The terrain around Suilven is not like any other. Boggy marshland, interspersed by lochs, while remaining rugged and rocky, brimming with wild life. Sights, smells, sounds (or lack of) make this area one that speaks for itself.
